A new design proposal is set to redefine the railway footbridge by drawing on the latest advances in carbon fibre technology. Inspired by developments in the automotive and aerospace industries, the concept combines extreme lightness with structural efficiency, offering a striking new presence for Britain’s rail infrastructure.
At the heart of the scheme is a transparent bridge link that connects platforms with minimal visual impact. The structure is defined by a distinctive inclined chord, branching out from the platforms and converging above the tracks to form a truss-like composition. This allows the bridge to appear both elegant and robust, while panoramic glass lifts and stairs ensure full accessibility.
All components are prefabricated off-site and assembled quickly, reducing disruption to passengers and services. The result is a contemporary, efficient, and visually refined piece of infrastructure that embodies the potential of carbon fibre in architecture.
