Trained at ETH Zurich, Jan Kinsbergen began his career with Hans Kollhoff before moving to New York in 1993. There he worked with Steven Holl until 1999, when he established his own practice in the city. Alongside his professional work, he taught architecture as a visiting lecturer at Columbia GSAPP and later returned to ETH Zurich as faculty between 2002 and 2008. Since 2002, Kinsbergen has led his practice, Jan Kinsbergen Architekt, based in Zurich, where he continues to combine design and teaching with a focus on architectural clarity and contextual engagement.
