In Morger Partner Architekten’s proposal for Turku’s Museum of History and the Future, the building’s character is defined by its striking urban form. The façade pushes outward in a series of folds, producing a layered depth between the inner volumes and the outer skin. This gesture not only frames open corners and sheltered entrances, but also signals the museum’s role as an accessible, public-oriented space.

Energy generation is integrated directly into the design. The exterior surfaces are clad with rhythmically arranged silver-grey photovoltaic panels, mounted onto a timber framework. The combination of reflective technology and traditional materiality enables the museum to move towards energy self-sufficiency, while simultaneously opening the building to daylight and offering glimpses into the galleries within.
